50 Years — Celebrated with Music, Dance & Friendship ❤️🎶 What better way to celebrate Doris & Alfred’s Golden Anniversary than with a live band, French jazz and swing, and a dance floor filled with family and friends? The wonderful @julietdunnjazz and Le Trio Parisien brought the sounds of France to Hart House, creating the perfect setting for an evening inspired by Doris & Alfred’s love of Paris — and, of course, their love of dancing. But looking around the dance floor, we were reminded that this celebration was about something more. Among the guests were members of our dance community and classmates who have become friends over many years — especially through Ballroom Open Variations. We’ve danced together, laughed together and, along the way, shared weddings, anniversaries, losses, new beginnings and so many other life milestones. That's one of the beautiful things about dance. We may first meet because we want to learn some steps. But somewhere along the way, classmates become friends, and friends become part of each other's lives. Their First Dance… 50 Years Later ❤️ When Doris & Alfred were married 50 years ago, they never had a formal First Dance. So at their Golden Anniversary celebration, after renewing their vows, they finally had their moment. ✨ They chose Charles Aznavour’s “For Me… Formidable” — a playful French-English love song that seemed perfect for two people with such a love for Paris and France. Their dance blended Foxtrot with Jive/Swing — and perhaps the most memorable part wasn't about getting every step perfect. Because sometimes, even the best dancers can suddenly go blank. And while Alfred went blank, Doris stayed with him. What matters is what happens next. Doris & Alfred stayed focused on each other. They kept moving, worked together, found their way back — and never stopped. In many ways, it felt like a reflection of the two people we have come to know over the years: determined, resilient, a team…and very much in love. Perhaps that's also a little lesson from 50 years of marriage. You won't always know exactly what comes next. Sometimes you simply stay connected, keep going, and figure it out together. 50 Years of Love - Doris & Alfred ❤️ What an honour to celebrate Doris Chiu & Alfred on their 50th Wedding Anniversary at beautiful Hart House at the University of Toronto. We’ve known Doris and Alfred since around 2010. What began through a real estate connection grew into a wonderful friendship with them and their family. Last August, that friendship took us all the way to Paris. 🇫🇷 It was our first visit, and there was something very special about experiencing the city through the eyes of two people who love it so much. One of the highlights was visiting Versailles — a place especially close to Doris and Alfred’s hearts. Each year, they return to immerse themselves in another time, dressing in the elegance of the era of Louis XIV. So for their 50th Anniversary, we brought a little bit of Versailles to Hart House. ✨ And this time, we had the privilege of sharing another one of our loves with them — dance. “I’M JUST DOUG.” 😂❤️ When we first met Kartiga & Doug, we commented on what an unusual and beautiful name Kartiga was. Doug’s response? “I’m just Doug.” 😂 And that was our introduction to this wonderful couple with their sense of humour and adventure. Neither came to us with dance experience. They simply wanted to make time together and create their First Dance to “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur. So they committed to learning the Rumba. Step by step, they learned how to move together and bring their Wedding Dance to life. And afterwards, Kartiga & Doug sent us their wedding video with a message that made us smile: “We were so happy with our dance and are so glad we committed to learning it.” ❤️ That's what Wedding Dance lessons are really about. You don't have to arrive as dancers. WHEN A PILOT LEARNS TO SOAR ON THE DANCE FLOOR ✈️❤️ Almost a year before their wedding, Briana & Barrett came to us to start preparing for their First Dance. Barrett is an airline pilot — which means his schedule doesn't always fit neatly into the same day and time every week. So their Wedding Dance lessons were planned around their lives, their schedules and their wedding journey. No rush. No need to squeeze everything into the final few weeks. Then, the day before their wedding, they wanted one last lesson. So Beverley travelled to their beautiful wedding venue at the Barn on Victoria in Jordan Station for their final lesson together. And the next day, it was time. Briana & Barrett stepped onto the dance floor and soared in a Waltz to "28" by Zach Bryan. ✈️❤️ Congratulations to you both! WE DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS THE CEO OF DENNINGER'S. ❤️ @denningersfoods is a long-standing, family-owned food business with German roots — and a familiar name especially in Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and beyond. Marah first contacted us about Wedding Dance lessons, and she and Patrick simply became a couple we had the privilege of getting to know. Lesson after lesson, we danced, laughed and prepared them for their big day. Then, during their final lesson, we started talking about their honeymoon — Italy, Scotland, Walkers Shortbread... and food. Beverley, of course, started talking about some of her favourite Denninger's foods. 😂 That's when we discovered: Patrick was the CEO of Denninger's. We'd gone through all those lessons without knowing. But that's what makes us smile most. Before we knew Patrick's title, we knew Patrick & Marah — two people preparing for their wedding and learning to dance together. Sometimes the best connections aren't planned.
