WE DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS THE CEO OF DENNINGER'S. ❤️
@denningersfoods is a long-standing, family-owned food business with German roots — and a familiar name especially in Hamilton, Burlington and beyond.
Marah first contacted us about Wedding Dance lessons, and she and Patrick simply became a couple we had the privilege of getting to know.
Lesson after lesson, we danced, laughed and prepared them for their big day.
Then, during their final lesson, we started talking about their honeymoon — Italy, Scotland, Walkers Shortbread... and food.
Beverley, of course, started talking about some of her favourite Denninger's foods. 😂
That's when we discovered:
Patrick was the CEO of Denninger's.
We'd gone through all those lessons without knowing.
But that's what makes us smile most.
Before we knew Patrick's title, we knew Patrick & Marah — two people preparing for their wedding and learning to dance together.
Sometimes the best connections aren't planned.
Sometimes... they begin with a Wedding Dance. ❤️
Congratulations, Patrick & Marah. It was a joy being part of yours.

4 DANCES. 4 MINUTES.
Could they actually do it?
We put a whole group to the test at Latin Night at the Museum: Merengue, Bachata, Salsa and Cha Cha in just four minutes.
They clapped. Counted. Marched.
And then… they danced. 💃🕺
So now it's your turn.
Which Latin dance would you try first?
A) Merengue
B) Bachata
C) Salsa
D) Cha Cha
Drop your letter below 👇
We're keeping score.

WHEN FIVE WIVES BECOME FIVE DANCE MOVES… 😂🇨🇳
At Chinese Rhythm & Taste, Robert had an unusual way of remembering the five parts of China’s viral Referee Dance…
His great-grandfather had five wives. 😳😂
Five wives. Five moves. One step at a time.
Then came the challenge:
“We have to do this in DOUBLE TIME now!”
And suddenly, the room was dancing. 🙌
Afterwards, guests told us:
“I’ve honestly never seen anyone teach a dance so effectively in such a short amount of time.”
That’s what we love about social dancing. You don’t have to arrive knowing the steps.
You just have to take the first one. ❤️

WHEN DANCE TEACHERS BECAME THE STUDENTS 🇺🇦 | A NIGHT IN UKRAINE
Sometimes we teach. Sometimes we learn. And sometimes, we simply learn together. ❤️
Throughout eat make share: dine & dance, each cultural celebration included something important to us at danceScape: an opportunity to move beyond watching the dance — and learn one together.
At A Night in Ukraine, it was our turn to learn.
Laryssa and Matthew of Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School invited us onto the floor and introduced us to the Polka.
Robert partnered with one of our danceScape Ballroom students (Heidi), and together they learned something new.
Across the floor, Beverley experienced a wonderful reversal.
Years ago, one of our students (Tanya) learned Salsa with us. She is Ukrainian and grew up with Polka. This time, she was helping Beverley. Her daughter was also among the young Tyrsa dancers performing that evening.
Teacher. Student. Sometimes those roles change.
Because one of the beautiful things about dance is that there is always something we can learn from each other.
Thank you to Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School for sharing your dance and culture as they celebrate an extraordinary 50th season. 🇺🇦❤️
A Night in Ukraine was the finale of eat make share: dine & dance, hosted by Museums of Burlington, with danceScape as Community & Cultural Activation Partner. The special exhibition of eat make share: a taste of immigration continues until September 5th at Joseph Brant Museum.
We may have reached the final event — but we're working backwards through the social dances we learned along the way...

A NIGHT IN UKRAINE 🇺🇦 | 4 STOPS, ONE JOURNEY | PART 2
A TOUR OF UKRAINE — THROUGH DANCE
In Part 1, we heard how Ukrainian culture has travelled across generations.
Now, @tyrsaukrainiandance Ukrainian Dance School takes us on a tour of Ukraine — through dance. 🇺🇦❤️
📍 STOP 1 — THE CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS
Meet the Hutsuls, known for their vibrant folk traditions.
Tyrsa brings the mountains to life with the Hutsulka — a cheerful, energetic mountain dance filled with movement and spirit.
📍 STOP 2 — CENTRAL UKRAINE
Here, dance becomes storytelling.
Scarves, ribbons, flowers, swords and tambourines become part of the choreography — with the tambourine itself becoming part of the dance, adding rhythm, energy and excitement.
📍 STOP 3 — POLKA
A dance that travelled.
Beginning in 19th-century Europe, the Polka spread from Bohemia (now part of Czech Republic) across countries and communities, including Poland and Ukraine, developing different regional expressions along the way.
Fast. Lively. Social.
A dance made for bringing people together.
📍 STOP 4 — VOLYN, NORTH-WESTERN UKRAINE
For our final stop, we travel to Volyn, a region in north-western Ukraine, for an elegant and flowing finale featuring two dancers from @Barvinokhamilton Ukrainian Dance School in Hamilton joining Tyrsa.
Four stops. Different regional traditions.
One journey through Ukraine — told through movement, music, costume and dance. 🇺🇦❤️
Celebrating its 50th season, Tyrsa continues to pass Ukrainian culture from one generation to the next while building confidence, friendships and community through dance.

A NIGHT IN UKRAINE 🇺🇦 | HOW DOES CULTURE SURVIVE? | PART 1
CARRYING CULTURE FORWARD
How does culture survive migration, displacement and the passing of generations?
At A Night in Ukraine, the finale of eat make share: dine & dance, we gathered to celebrate the food, music, stories and dance that help keep culture alive.
The evening began by acknowledging the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Anishinaabeg peoples, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, recognizing the First Peoples of the land on which we gathered.
Celebrating an extraordinary 50 years, Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School reflected on a story familiar to generations of Ukrainian Canadians — one of migration, displacement and preserving culture across generations.
Since the first Ukrainian immigrants arrived in Canada in 1891, food, music, costumes and dance have helped families carry traditions from one generation to the next.
And across Ukraine's many regions, those traditions have developed their own distinctive character.
Through dance, @tyrsaukrainiandance + @barvinokhamilton is about to take us on a tour of Ukraine — region by region. 🇺🇦❤️
In Part 1, we hear the story. Next, the journey begins.
Stay tuned for Part 2...

FROM PIEROGIES TO POLKA. 🇺🇦❤️
A NIGHT IN UKRAINE.
What happens when you bring together Ukrainian food, culture, music and dance?
You get a night like this. ❤️
From sharing pierogies around the table to watching the young dancers of @tyrsaukrainiandance + @barvinokhamilton Ukrainian Dance School — and eventually getting everyone up to Polka — A Night in Ukraine brought together community from Burlington, Hamilton and beyond.
The evening was especially meaningful as Tyrsa celebrates an extraordinary 50 years of carrying Ukrainian dance and culture from one generation to the next. Congratulations to Laryssa & Matthew Pichocki for all their hard work in coordinating all the dance teams.
It was also the third and final chapter of eat make share: dine & dance, organized by Museums of Burlington, with @danceScape serving as Community & Cultural Activation Partner.
A special thank you to Zirkova Vodka, 13th Street Winery and Nickel Brook Brewing for their support of the evening, and to Tyrsa, the Museums of Burlington team, our danceScape Ballroom & Salsa community, and everyone who came to eat, share, dine and dance with us.
Good food. Great dancing. One incredible community. 🇺🇦❤️

What a way to close the third and final Eat • Make • Share: Dine & Dance celebration. Organized by @museumsburlon.
Ukrainian culture, food, music and dance brought together community from Burlington, Hamilton and beyond.

POLITICIANS & GUEST SPEAKERS SHARE WHY OUR IMMIGRATION STORIES MATTER. ❤️
At the opening of Eat • Make • Share: A Taste of Immigration, political, community and museum leaders came together to reflect on the importance of preserving and sharing the personal stories behind Canada's immigration experience.
We heard from Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward through her letter; Ward 3 Councillor Rory Nisan; Fiona Valverde, Vice President, Revenue Generation, Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21; Samuel Adeyemi of BMO, Presenting Sponsor of the travelling exhibition; and Kimberly Watson, Director of Museums of Burlington.
Behind the scenes, Miriam Martens, Special Events Planner & Educator, and the dedicated Museums of Burlington team helped bring the exhibition and its community experiences to life.
Their words reminded us that behind every journey is a personal story—and those stories help shape the communities we call home.
For danceScape founders Robert Tang & Beverley Cayton-Tang, helping activate those stories through dance felt especially meaningful. Celebrating 26 years in Downtown Burlington, the Canadian and North American Ballroom Champions have represented Canada at five World Championships and appeared on Dragons' Den, The Marilyn Denis Show, CHCH TV and national initiatives with ParticipACTION.
“Dance has always been about more than steps. It gives people from different backgrounds a way to meet, connect and celebrate what we share—while discovering the cultures and stories that make each of us unique.”
— Robert Tang & Beverley Cayton-Tang, danceScape
Together with our Ballroom & Salsa community, danceScape has been honoured to help Museums of Burlington extend Eat • Make • Share into Eat • Make • Share • Dine • Dance—bringing different cultural communities together through food, music, stories and dance.
