FROM PIEROGIES TO POLKA. 🇺🇦❤️ A NIGHT IN UKRAINE. What happens when you bring together Ukrainian food, culture, music and dance? You get a night like this. ❤️ From sharing pierogies around the table to watching the young dancers of Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School — and eventually getting everyone up to Polka — A Night in Ukraine brought together community from Burlington, Hamilton and beyond. The evening was especially meaningful as Tyrsa celebrates an extraordinary 50 years of carrying Ukrainian dance and culture from one generation to the next. Congratulations to Laryssa & Matthew Pichocki for all their hard work in coordinating all the dance teams. It was also the third and final chapter of eat make share: dine & dance, organized by Museums of Burlington, with @danceScape serving as Community & Cultural Activation Partner. POLITICIANS & GUEST SPEAKERS SHARE WHY OUR IMMIGRATION STORIES MATTER. ❤️ At the opening of Eat • Make • Share: A Taste of Immigration, political, community and museum leaders came together to reflect on the importance of preserving and sharing the personal stories behind Canada's immigration experience. We heard from Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward through her letter; Ward 3 Councillor Rory Nisan; Fiona Valverde, Vice President, Revenue Generation, Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21; Samuel Adeyemi of BMO, Presenting Sponsor of the travelling exhibition; and Kimberly Watson, Director of Museums of Burlington. Behind the scenes, Miriam Martens, Special Events Planner & Educator, and the dedicated Museums of Burlington team helped bring the exhibition and its community experiences to life. Their words reminded us that behind every journey is a personal story—and those stories help shape the communities we call home. For danceScape founders Robert Tang & Beverley Cayton-Tang, helping activate those stories through dance felt especially meaningful. WHEN LIFE COMES FULL CIRCLE. ❤️ Ten years ago, Valerie first walked through our doors as a young woman with a love of music, dance (especially Salsa) and her whole future ahead of her. Back then, life looked very different. University was still ahead. A career was still a dream. Like so many of us at that stage of life, she couldn't have known where her journey would eventually lead. Life happened. She grew, learned, achieved, and discovered that sometimes the story we imagine isn't the story life has planned for us. Then, years later, life came full circle. Valerie returned to danceScape—this time with Bruce—to prepare for one of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Today, Valerie is a Genetics Technologist at Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster Children's Hospital, and Bruce is a Genome Analyst at Hamilton Health Sciences. Together, they spend their professional lives helping unlock the stories written in our genes. Yet one of our favourite stories wasn't found in a laboratory. It was watching them step onto the dance floor together at Club Roma, sharing their first dance to "From the Ground Up" by Dan + Shay. Watching Valerie walk back into our studio reminded us that some places quietly become part of our lives. They stay with us through the seasons, waiting for the day a new chapter begins. When Delrene and Jose came to danceScape to prepare for their destination wedding in Portugal, Jose was quietly dealing with severe back pain. Yet through every lesson, he never once said, "I can't." Instead, he showed up with determination, a smile, and a willingness to keep going. Together, they adapted, encouraged one another, and focused on what mattered most—creating a beautiful moment they would remember forever. Surrounded by family and friends, they danced to "In Case You Didn't Know" by Brett Young, proving that the most memorable first dances aren't just about the wedding day... They're about the journey that brings you there. GO BE AMAZING. ❤️ Some couples come to us to learn a first dance. Courtney and Kyle came to tell a story. From our very first lesson, it was clear they shared something special. They encouraged one another, celebrated every milestone, and reminded us that the best partnerships aren't about perfection—they're about bringing out the best in each other. Courtney inspires women through @themidlifemethod.courtney, while @kyleimrie is an Executive at Fielding Environmental/GFL Environmental, lives his personal motto, "Go Be Amazing," by supporting his team, clients, family and community. That same spirit shone through every lesson. On their wedding day at Whistle Bear Golf & Country Club @wbgolfclub, they surprised family and friends with a first dance blending Foxtrot, Salsa and a lift to What a Wonderful World and (I've Had) The Time of My Life.
